The real plague doctor traditionally wore this spooky long beaked mask with a full length hooded gown, hat, gloves & spectacles in an attempt to both protect himself and to keep clamouring plague victims at a safe distance. He hoped to avoid infection and unpleasant smells by filling the enormous nose with scented and medicinal herbs. This fabulous mask is made of papier mache and decorated in antiqued ivory, gold leaf and black, fitted with gold wire specs. With silk ribbons to wear and hook for display.
